Network marketing is based on relationship selling, the state of the art in sales today.  People don't trust corporations as much as they trust an individual that they know.  Network marketing brings trust and the quality of the relationship in to the center of the business arena.

Network Marketing is not well understood by many people.  They always say "pyramid" when all corporate business is distinctly hierarchical--a pyramid.  They often call it "Multilevel Marketing" even though corporations have many levels.  They don't think of it as a serious type of business even though this was the means by which MCI and Sprint obtained market share from AT&T that made them a contender in the long distance telephone marketplace.  Rexall, Discovery Toys, ServiceMaster, Colgate-Palmolive and Gillette all have a network marketing branch.  In the early 90's, Shaklee was bought by a Japanese conglomerate for half a billion dollars. Applied Electronics, a $400 million corporation in Hong Kong, has been achieving great success with a network marketing arm.  Dainippon, a $7.5 Billion corporation in Japan created a network marketing company to market nutritional products, Earthnet. Most people still don't realize that Network Marketing can be very effective at marketing and very ethical.  Not always, but then corporations are not always very ethical, are they?  So what then is Network Marketing?

It could be called, "Referral Marketing." I'm always referring people to a movie, a book, a restaurant and I've never been paid for the advertising.  Paul Pilzer says that as product lines expand, large corporations find that they have reached the limits of their capacity to educate consumers about the new products.  They are discovering that the person-to-person approach of network marketing is a perfect fit for their growth needs. Amway is now a significant market for Gateway Computers. Jim Rohn became a millionaire at 31.  More importantly, he says,

"More valuable than the money are the skills it taught me.  In the corporate world, it's hard to rub shoulders with the megastars.  Network Marketing exposes people to good speakers, to positive ideas about setting goals, rendering service, managing time, training and inspiring other people.  Network marketing is really the greatest source of grass-roots capitalism, because it teaches people to take a small bit of capital--that is, your time--and build the American Dream."

 I've found how to show people to do what I've done before and earn a living and be independent.  I've also found that this referral marketing is the most effective method to learn the circle way.  It's a practicum, a community with a common purpose of mutual support using the Native American model of the circle way.  A surprise to me, I found that the best learning medium for this is referral or network marketing.  I've been sole proprietor, partner, incorporated, a cog in the corporate machine, an entrepreneur.  I've marketed my art and crafts from coast-to-coast and in Europe with personal selling and vending at powwows and art shows.  

I was introduced to network marketing through Amway in the early 1970�s, but I didn't like keeping inventory, delivering, collection, paying out downline.  It was too cumbersome.  Later, I became a distributor of Super Blue-green Algae through Cell Tech.  The product was great but not everybody could imagine eating algae.  I was in Nutrition for Life until they lost the contract to sell some important products.  And then Nature�s Sunshine because of their excellent line of herbs at reasonable prices.  And JewelWay.  From each of these I learned the hard way what it takes to be successful in network marketing.
 

Network marketing has become a very effective marketing system. In the typical corporation there is a small group of decision-makers at the top of the pyramid.  They direct the work of middle level managers who, in turn, direct the work of office staff and salespeople.  In network marketing, each person is his/her own boss.  They choose how and when and how hard he/she works and with whom.  There is no discrimination against women, or people without a title in front of or after their name.  Without a large investment or risk, ordinary people can do what they normally do�tell other people about things that interest them.  They have an opportunity that does not require sales ability or experience. They never have to write orders, keep an inventory, do paperwork, or deliver products.  They don�t need a license, a certificate, an office building, a factory, a warehouse, delivery equipment, or employees.

An important component of success in network marketing is having the right type of product.  It should be a product that�s so effective and life changing that it will be impossible for anyone not to tell others. It should be a product that people will buy, use, and buy again, because their health and well-being depends upon it. You can be a hero for their pocketbook and later a hero for their health and well-being. Another component of success in network marketing is duplication. You only need to show others how to do what you do. They need to see you do what they believe they could do also.  Even if you are the greatest salesman in the world, you can only meet with a few people each day. And your sales are based only on your own work.  Network marketing is so successful because you help others do the simple things that you do.  They do the same.  All of them are amplifying your efforts. 

Please understand that the explanation that follows is only a simple way to describe the potential that is possible for showing others how to be successful.  Your success is based on their success.  Their success is your success.  This is also the magic of the circle way.  Imagine a one-year program in which you only find two people each month and help them find two people. 

In seven months you will have built an organization of more than 2,000 simply by:

After 8 months the total is 6460, after 9 months it's 19,382, 10th month = 58,148, 11th month = .........the numbers just get too astronomical to imagine.  If that kind of growth scares you, just find ONE person a month and so on......  It's slower but has a similar result--your success and the success of others in your team, your circle.  You don�t need to give up your regular job if you don�t want to.  Just reserve enough time and energy to find two people and teach them how to do what you do.

This is not only about selling products. In the circle each person cares for the whole circle and the whole circle cares for each person.  In the circle leadership is shared, rotated so that each person learns to lead and to follow.  As ducks and geese migrate between their winter and summer homes they fly in a V-formation that takes advantage of an undulating flow of air, a vortex street, that be 'ns with the wing beats of the leader.  The birds in the second position follow at the left and right in the wake of the leader.  They can fly with much less effort in the rolling waves of the leader's rhythm.  Their wing beats catch the wake and stroke it to keep it rolling along the formation to the birds in the third position and so on.  When the leader tires she falls back in the formation while another moves ahead to work at splitting the air for the others.  The formation rides along on the shared effort of all.

Life can be so much easier for humans if they would learn from nature.  For humans the circle is a most natural and fulfilling way to live.  In the circle we can see that giving is the same as receiving.  When the geese and ducks migrate they give and they receive, receive and give.  There is no difference.  The others in the formation are important to them.  Each has value and worth.  Not all can fly with the same strength and endurance.  Perhaps others are more alert to danger when the flock is resting or sleeping.  Others may be better at identifying the landmarks or the best places to stop and eat.  Who knows?

We can create vortex streets like the wing beats of the birds, that can carry each of us, all of us, to a deeper experience.  There are many leadership tasks in a dynamic circle.  Some are good at talking to people.  Some are teachers.  A few are good at selling.  Everyone has some form of creativity that has yet to be fully tapped and appreciated.  Some are effective communicators on the telephone or in a group.  Others write well or understand computers and internet access.  We will discover the special function of our being in the circle, like an organ in a body.  Each of us can learn from others in the circle.  We learn how to fly together, to travel beyond our limitations, to discover how unlimited we really are.
